2025 Summer Internship - Platform Engineering

Berthoud, Colorado
Apply Now

Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems: we design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems.

Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.

Ursa Major is currently seeking talented individuals for our Summer 2025 Digital Operations Internship. This group has several teams such as Service Desk, CyberSecurity and Platform Engineering. The role will be primarily guided by Platform Engineering, but our intern can expect diverse exposure to tasks from all groups to provide a well-rounded experience.

Platform Engineering builds and supports cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes clusters, and installs, maintains and integrates software supporting the teams building our engines. We're looking for interns willing to try their hands at integrating disparate software systems, and who have interest in learning how production software infrastructure is built and maintained. We work by identifying needs, writing up tasks that provide guidance and then giving engineers ownership to independently implement a solution; senior engineers are here to give help and support if you ask for it.

CyberSecurity works on governance issues and improving Ursa Major’s compliance with industry-applicable regulations. It’s a small, capable team and learning the ropes comes with great reward and industry applicability.

What’s not to love about our Service Desk team? The role brings broad exposure to useful and interesting tasks, from managing Microsoft Entra’s identity store to making sure that hardware’s being distributed across the company.

We support teams making the best damn engines in the world, and you'll be supporting that mission.

Requirements

  • Background in computer science, computer engineering, or other engineering discipline with some experience writing software is ideal. However, if you're confident you can programmatically call an http API, get some data and do something with it in some language, feel free to apply.
  • Excellent with fundamentals: networking concepts, calling APIs,
  • Hands-on project experience: ability to use git and to deploy software on hardware other than your development machine
  • Demonstrated teamwork and ability to communicate effectively in a group setting
  • Drive to continuously improve technical and team skills
  • Experience with Linux and (Docker) containers is preferred

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $29.00/hour, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide as we are evaluating individuals based on their unique experience and abilities to fit our needs. Most importantly, we are excited to meet you, and see if you are a great fit for our team. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
